LawAI Summer Fellowship 2026 in USA (Fully Funded)

Applications are now open for the LawAI Summer Fellowship 2026 in the US. This is a fully funded program open to individuals from any country. The Institute for Law and AI (LawAI) offers this paid fellowship to law students, professionals, and academics who wish to work on AI-related law and policy projects. The fellowship aims to help participants learn about artificial intelligence and ensure its progress is safe and useful for all. Fellows will be guided by mentors and work with policymakers, researchers, and experts in the field. This fellowship runs for 10 weeks, from June 15th to August 21st, and is primarily online. However, there will also be an in-person week from June 22nd to 26th, held in either Washington, DC, or Berkeley, California. Further details are provided below.

About the Institute of LawAI

The Law and Artificial Intelligence Institute (LawAI) is an independent think tank dedicated to ensuring the safe and fair use of artificial intelligence. The Institute works with governments, international organizations, and businesses to understand and address legal issues related to artificial intelligence. As a Summer Research Fellow, you will work with a mentor to develop a research project that aligns with your background and interest in artificial intelligence law and policy.

Fellowship Structure

  • Remote Fellowship: 8-12 weeks

  • The Fellowship is open to people from any country.
  • They welcome applications from people with all kinds of backgrounds and experience levels in AI law and policy.
  • You don’t need to be an AI expert to apply.
  • The Past Fellows were from the following backgrounds:
    • Graduate law students (e.g., JD or LLM), PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers
    • Professionals transitioning into the field
    • Legal academics
