(Fully Funded) UNESCO Youth Hackathon 2025 in Colombia

Applications are now open for the fully funded UNESCO Youth Hackathon 2025, which will take place in Colombia this year. This event brings together young people from around the world to collaborate on innovative ideas for addressing significant challenges in today’s digital landscape.

Some of these challenges include:

  • The growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  •  The spread of fake news and misinformation
  •  Online hate speech
  •  The control of major online platforms
  •  Threats to trustworthy information

Last year, in 2024, UNESCO hosted 202 teams in Indonesia. The winners of this year’s hackathon will get an invitation to attend the UNESCO Youth Hackathon during the Global MIL Week Conference on October 23-24, 2025, in Cartagena, Colombia. All travel and accommodation costs will be covered by UNESCO. More details are provided below.

Structure of the Program

  • Selected participants will get free online mentoring before sending their ideas.
  • Applicants will submit their projects and proposals through the UNESCO website.

  • Youth organization campaigns
  • Community-based interventions
  • Other creative modalities for innovative interventions.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates from all countries are eligible.
  • Team Size: 3 to 6 members per team (can be national, regional, or international).
  • Age Requirement: All team members must be between 18 and 30 years old.
  • Diversity Encouraged: Gender balance and inclusivity are highly encouraged within teams.
  • Experience Not Required: Your passion and motivation are all you need – no prior experience is necessary.
