UN Ocean Fellowship 2025 in Portugal (Fully Funded)

Apply for the Fully Funded Conference. Applications for the UN Ocean Fellowship 2025 in Portugal are now open. This is a fully funded short-term fellowship in Portugal, which will take place from 20 October to 24 October 2025 for a total of 5 (five) days (excluding travel time to and from Portugal). 30 fellowships will be awarded in 2025. There is no fee to apply, and anyone from a UN member country can apply. This fellowship brings together people from around the world to help them learn and build skills to deal with ocean-related problems. It is fully funded by the UN DESA and the Government of Portugal. Purpose of the Fellowship

  • The programe aims to help senior ocean policy officials from developing countries acquire the knowledge and skills needed to support and improve the sustainable use and conservation of the ocean.
  • Build capacity in these countries to protect marine ecosystems and promote a sustainable blue economy.
  • To provide specialized, interdisciplinary training in ocean governance, ocean conservation, blue economy, and continental shelf management.
  • Facilitate international collaboration and networking among global ocean leaders.
  • United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14: Directly support life below water.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates from the UN Member States.
  • This fellowship is for high-level government officials from developing countries who are key decision-makers in ocean policy, governance, and management.
  • Heads or deputy heads of national ocean policy agencies.
  • Ambassadors or equivalent officials with ocean policy responsibilities.
  • Currently employed by their government and planning to remain in their role long-term.
  • Fluent in English (the program is in English only).
